2008 STONEWALL

Stonewall XV Regatta

31 May 2008
venue: Anacostia River (location)
Washington, DC
United States
General Information

The Stonewall Regatta Organizing Committee and the DC Strokes Rowing Club invite rowers to compete at the Stonewall XV Regatta.

Stonewall is the only glbt-sponsored regatta in the United States. The event helps kick off the mid-Atlantic adult sprint racing season and serves to connect groups from different backgrounds and different geographic regions. Teams enter from private clubs, the armed forces, and other glbt crews (from cities like Boston, Chicago and Toronto). Last year’s regatta drew 350 rowers from 22 clubs to compete in 55 events.

The course, set on the Anacostia River, starts just below the Pennsylvania Avenue (Sousa) Bridge and finishes downriver between the double I-295 bridges.

  • Launch/recover: Anacostia Community Boathouse
  • First race at 0900h. and last race at 1600h.
  • Course: 1,000 meter finals-only masters sprint race
  • Boat entries: 1x, 2x, 4x, 4+, and 8+
  • Category entries for novice, masters, and open
  • USRowing masters categories: AA - J
Entry Information

Register online at Regatta Central. Deadline is 24 May 2008.

Notes on registration: the system is designed to submit entries for a given boat through a club or a coach unless you plan to row in a single. For rowers coming from overseas who would like to enter an entire boat, your boat captain should create an account with Regatta Central and register your names. Online payments will be charged in US dollars but crews can also submit payment by check or cash directly.  For any individual rowers who would like to race in a boat, you don’t need to register with Regatta Central. The boat captain or the coach will register your name. To find a seat in a boat, list yourself in the GLRF Seat Search service.

Social Activities

We have three wonderful events planned for visiting rowers:

Lodging Resources

For visiting friends, we’ll be happy to try and find you a spare bed. Please let us know as soon as possible. For hotels, we recommend two hotel groups:

The Beacon Hotel Group: a group rate has been negotiated for Stonewall participants of $169 per night for Friday and Saturday night, 30 May and 31 May. Note that the rate applies to one person. The hotel will charge an extra $20 per person for additional guests in one room. Call the hotel reservations department at 202-296-2100 or toll free at 800-821-4367 between 7 am and 7 pm and ask for group rate “Stonewall Regatta XV.” Alternatively, you can email them at reservations@beaconhotelwdc.com The hotel is located at 1615 Rhode Island Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20036.

The Kimpton Hotel group: Monaco, George, Topaz, Madera, Helix, Rouge, and Palomar. Each property will offer 10% off their best available rates and for each night booked $10 will go to one of our local glbt non-profits (see below). There is no room night guarantee and no reservation cutoff date. Reservations must be made online. Enter one of the following codes in the rate code field, then search:
